Bishop Knestout has dispensed all the faithful in the Diocese of Richmond from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass until further notice. However, if you choose to attend a public Mass during the weekday or weekend, it is absolutely imperative that you adhere to the various guidelines and requirements. Please take the time to watch our video on how to safely return to Mass and participate in the liturgy. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the parish office.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19, Mass is still being live-streamed for use on various Diocesan digital media accounts of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, including, but not limited to, the websites of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond and the Catholic Virginian, and the social media platforms of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. Photography and/or screenshot images from the live-stream may be used for the Catholic Virginian print edition. If you do not wish to be captured by live streaming, please refrain from attending that particular Mass time.

Dear parishioner,
Here's what's happening this week!

Daily Mass
We will have Daily Mass on:
  • Tuesday, Nov. 3rd at 12:10 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 4th at 7:00 p.m. (Spanish).
  • Thursday, Nov. 5th at 12:10 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 6th at 12:10 p.m.
*All daily Masses are live-streamed on our Facebook pages – @sheartchurch and @IglSagradoCorazon.

Eucharistic Adoration
Wednesdays | 7:45 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Come spend some time with our Lord! Jesus is waiting for you!

First Friday Adoration and First Saturday Devotion
We will have a Holy Hour from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6th followed by Mass at 12:10 p.m.

Members of the Legion of Mary will lead us in a rosary starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7th in the sanctuary, followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. We invite you to join us for this devotion.

Please note: The rosary will not be live-streamed.

Election Day Mass
If your schedule on Tuesday, November 3, allows it, you're invited to come to Mass at 12:10pm.
Fr. Jonathan will celebrate a special Mass on the Feast of St. Martin de Porres, a Peruvian brother and passionate advocate of the poor who died in 1639. He is widely invoked by those seeking racial harmony, so it seems providential that we could invoke him on Election Day. You're invited to come pray for all voters, for our candidates and for our country.

Giving Tuesday
#iGiveCatholic and #GivingTuesday will be on December 1st this year! Last year, our school and church community helped us so much in donations that we were able to purchase our new activity bus. This year our goal is to raise $7,500 for the school and $7,500 for the parish. You can find the school's #iGiveCatholic profile and more information at richmond.igivecatholic.org.

Help SHCS, Help You!
Would you like to direct your Virginia State Taxes to Sacred Heart Catholic School? You can through the Virginia Education Improvement Scholarships Tax Credits program. Individuals or businesses making contributions of $500 or more can receive a Virginia TAX CREDIT equal to 65% of the donation. The monies are used for tuition assistance for students from families whose household income is less than 300% of the poverty level (for example, $72,900 for a family of 4), or 400% if the child is disabled. In addition, donors who itemize will also receive deductions for charitable contributions on state and federal taxes. Participants should consult their tax advisors to determine their specific tax savings.  Individuals and businesses can receive substantial tax benefits by contributing through the EISTC program. Contact Donna Comper at 793-2656 for more information.

Our Mission
Sacred Heart Catholic School’s mission is to establish a strong foundation for lifelong learning and provide an educational environment in which the basic tenets of Christian morals and ethics are visibly present. Recognizing the unique needs of each student, the faculty and staff will endeavor to nurture, challenge and guide all students toward their maximum academic, spiritual, physical, social, and emotional potential. As a Catholic school, we will emphasize God’s word and celebrate His presence through prayer, liturgy, and service to others.

Other Announcements

Second Collection
The second collection for this upcoming weekend is for the Archdiocese of Military Services. The Archdiocese of Military Services was created by Pope Saint John Paul II to provide the Catholic Church’s full range of pastoral ministries and spiritual services to those in the United States Armed Forces. Thank you for your financial support and generosity!

You can make your contributions by giving online or through the GivePlus mobile app. You can also drop off your envelopes at the church!

2020 Eucharistic Congress
As the culmination of our bicentennial celebration, the Diocese of Richmond will host its first Eucharistic Congress, which will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2020. A Eucharistic Congress is a gathering of clergy, religious, and laity to bear witness to the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

This event will bring together clergy, religious, and laity from parishes, schools, and campus ministries from across the Diocese of Richmond. Instead of gathering at the Greater Richmond Convention Center as planned, we will organize a series of synchronized events in parishes, and speakers will give online presentations.
We will be offering events here at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, November 7th. There will be a Rosary at 9am, Reflection at 9:30am, Mass at 10am, and Holy Hour at 11am. Holy Hour will be concurrent with the Holy Hour at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond, and with other churches along the diocese. We will also have a Eucharistic Congress Youth Track for grades 6th-12th at the church from 1:00pm-2:30pm. Please click on the Sign Up button on the right to save a place, space is limited!

Advent Bags
We are preparing advent/Christmas bags for inmates at Green Rock Correctional Center in Chatham, VA. It's likely we won't be able to gather as a large group to assemble the bags in December, so we've decided to start now and work on it throughout the fall. You can sign up for a date and time to come by and help prepare bags on the right side and click Volunteer!  Additionally, we are in need of these supplies for the bags:
  • Construction paper
  • Chip/pretzel bags individually packaged
  • Mini chocolate candy bars (Fun Size Hersheys, Milky Way, etc.)
  • Holiday Christmas cards with envelope (small size)
  • Ramen noodle packs
  • Hot chocolate packs
Please drop off your donations at the church. We appreciate your generosity!

Shred Out Hunger
Join God's Storehouse and Commonwealth Document Management on Saturday, November 7th to Shred Out Hunger! The event will be from 9am to 12pm at God's Storehouse, 750 Memorial Drive, Danville VA. Shred a box of personal documents in exchange for 5 or more canned goods! They will also accept monetary donations. For a safe, limited contact event, they ask for you to remain in your vehicle. For more information, please contact God's Storehouse at (434) 793-3663.
