Lenten Retreat
This past Saturday, we gathered together as a community during our Lenten retreat. At this retreat, we heard from Father Chris Alar and Fr. Dante Aguero from the National Shrine of Divine Mercy. For those that were unable to make it but would like to access the video at home and enjoy all of the materials at home and with their family, we have a few packets available. Please come by the church office to obtain one.

In addition to this past weekend’s retreat, we would like to request that all the faithful join together in the Divine Mercy Novena beginning on Good Friday. We will have the image of Divine Mercy on display during the Mass on the Feast of the Divine Mercy which will be on Sunday, April 24th. God’s Storehouse Shopping List
A way that we can be charitable during this season of Lent is to help out those who are less fortunate than us. God’s Storehouse works throughout the Danville and Pittsylvania County communities to collect food, distribute food resources to those in need, promote nutrition, and connect customers to local resources. A great way to help is by purchasing items we give to our customers. Please click this link to see a few printable Grocery Lists you can take with you on your next grocery run!

God’s Storehouse asks that food donations are no larger than 5 lbs. and canned foods are no larger than 18 ounces.
Hours: Mon/Tues/Wed 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. & Thursday 1 p.m.-5 p.m. – FRIDAY CLOSED

Notes for Sacred Heart Parishioners
A few days ago, the church office received the following note: “Dear Parishioners, Thirty years ago this month, a tumor was removed from my brain stem. [I] still recall and appreciate the many kindnesses (prayers, calls, cards, food, flowers) and support. A part of my life that will never be forgotten, you got us through. Thank you again. God’s blessings to all, Marilyn Rogers”

We also received news that Sister Margaret Gardner, who was part of Sacred Heart Church around the 80’s when Fr. Carr was pastor, has recently celebrated her 101st birthday! She enjoyed a festive lunch with other Sisters and community members. She also wished for and received a Lego set for her birthday.

Individuals or businesses making contributions of $500 or more can receive a Virginia TAX CREDIT equal to 65% of the donation. In addition, donors who itemize will also receive deductions for charitable contributions on state and federal taxes. Participants should consult their tax advisors to determine their specific tax savings.  Individuals and businesses can receive substantial tax benefits by contributing through the EISTC program. Our Mission
Sacred Heart Catholic School’s mission is to establish a strong foundation for lifelong learning and provide an educational environment in which the basic tenets of Christian morals and ethics are visibly present. Recognizing the unique needs of each student, the faculty and staff will endeavor to nurture, challenge and guide all students toward their maximum academic, spiritual, physical, social, and emotional potential. As a Catholic school, we will emphasize God’s word and celebrate His presence through prayer, liturgy, and service to others.

Mass Times

Bishop Knestout and other bishops have decided to lift the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Days Mass obligation in the Dioceses of Richmond, and will reinstate that obligation beginning on Saturday, June 26, 2021 and Sunday, June 27, 2021. We welcome and encourage the Faithful to return to full in-person participation of the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith. If you would like to read the joint statement regarding Lifting the General Dispensation from the Obligation to Attend Mass , please click here.
This obligation does not apply to those who are ill; those who have reason to believe that they were recently exposed to the coronavirus, another serious or contagious illness; those who are confined to their home, a hospital, or nursing facility; or those with serious underlying health conditions. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the parish office.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19, Mass is still being live-streamed for use on various Diocesan digital media accounts of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, including, but not limited to, the websites of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond and the Catholic Virginian, and the social media platforms of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. Photography and/or screenshot images from the live-stream may be used for the Catholic Virginian print edition. If you do not wish to be captured by live streaming, please refrain from attending that particular Mass time.

Dear Sacred Heart Parishioners:

This is just a friendly reminder as it has become more and more frequent that people are receiving fake emails requesting money, gift cards, etc. from someone pretending to be a person that you know. Unfortunately, many of these emails tend to come in the form of an email account pretending to be Fr. Anthony, other parish office personnel, or school personnel. While, the Diocesan I.T. Department has zero control over which email accounts are created, it’s important to identify these fake email accounts, and remember that Fr. Anthony (or any Diocesan employee for that matter) will not handle business through an email address that is not part of the Richmond Diocese domain (@richmonddiocese.org). This is also the case for any Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic School employee and our email domains (@sheartchurch.org and @sheartschool.com, respectively).

These scams continue to be perpetuated because they continue to work. We ask that you do not reply to such emails, click on links within those emails or download content in them. If you receive help requests that you think are legitimate, verify that the person is legitimate by calling them directly on another known valid number. Don’t ask the emailer for information or a call. Find an offline method of correspondence that you and that person have used in the past to talk with each other.

In Christ,
Sacred Heart Catholic Church personnel
