Bishop Knestout has dispensed all the faithful in the Diocese of Richmond from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass until further notice. However, if you choose to attend a public Mass during the weekday or weekend, it is absolutely imperative that you adhere to the various guidelines and requirements. Please take the time to watch our video on how to safely return to Mass and participate in the liturgy. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the parish office.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19, Mass is still being live-streamed for use on various Diocesan digital media accounts of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, including, but not limited to, the websites of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond and the Catholic Virginian, and the social media platforms of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. Photography and/or screenshot images from the live-stream may be used for the Catholic Virginian print edition. If you do not wish to be captured by live streaming, please refrain from attending that particular Mass time.

Mass of Atonement
Friday, August 28, 2020 at 12:10 p.m.

Please join us for a special Mass this Friday at our regular Mass time. Fr. Jonathan will celebrate a Mass of Atonement for sins committed by Danville city leaders and residents over the past centuries, especially for its active role in supporting Confederate forces during the Civil War and the violence perpetrated against demonstrators during the civil rights movement.

The date of this Mass of Atonement is significant for multiple reasons. On the evening of August 28, an important “Unity Matters” rally will be held in Danville to mark the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington and the “I Have a Dream” speech by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Also, August 28 is the Feast of St. Augustine, one of the most important writers and theologians in Christian history. A native of North Africa, he is one of our most important saints “of color.”

The Mass will also be live-streamed on the parish Facebook page. At the conclusion of Mass, Fr. Jonathan will sprinkle those present with holy water, reminding them of their baptismal mandate to work for justice, unity, and respect for all people, which are constitutive elements of the Kingdom of God.

For more information about the Mass of Atonement, please contact the parish office. For additional information about the “Unity Matters” rally that will take place Friday evening, please see the flyers below.
